By-Law 1. Adopted at the Branch Committee meeting dated 25 Jul 22
Conduct of Annual and Special General Meetings.
1) Elections: Nominations for posts of the Branch Committee shall be in writing, signed by a proposer and seconder, both of whom shall be members of the Branch, and accompanied by evidence of the willingness of the nominee to stand (see example form attached). This must be submitted to the Secretary no later than 14 days prior to the due date of any election. Nominees should attend the relevant AGM/SGM and be prepared to make a statement to support their application. If they are unable to attend a written statement should be sent to the Secretary to be read out at the meeting.
2) Voting by Branch members: Propositions shall be approved by a show of hands by those members present at any meeting except: a. When a ballot is requested by two or more members present. b. At the Election of an Officer where one or more nominations for that post is received. c. On a proposal to amend this Constitution at an AGM/SGM (para 18 refers).
3) Ballots: A Ballot shall be anonymous and Conducted by the Secretary unless subject of the Ballot. In such cases the Chairman shall nominate a member to conduct said Ballot. If the Chair is the subject of the ballot another nominated Officer (agreed by a by show of hands by those present) shall act as Chair for the completion of that ballot:
3) a. Each CAMRA member present at a Branch meeting or CAMRA members listed in para 7 present at an AGM/SGM may vote except for any nominee for that vote. b. Entitlement to vote shall be checked against the Attendance Register signed by each person present at the meeting and by each member providing evidence of their current membership of CAMRA if required to do so by any member present. c. A blank anonymous voting slip shall be provided to those present, entitled and wishing to vote. d. The conducting officer shall detail the names of each nominee and what should be entered on the voting slip for each candidate. e. Any deviation, multiple entry or illegible voting slip will be deemed spoiled and will be disregarded. The conducting officer’s decision will be final. f. In the event of a draw the Chair for the ballot shall have a casting vote.
